Is this a good first paragraph for an essay? please i desperate?

Throughout the book, we see that Huck has a somewhat short-term memory. There are two events where this occurs. When he and Jim decide to dress him up as a girl so he could go into town, he uses different names. He first introduces himself to the woman as Sarah Williams. During their conversation, the woman notices a few details about Huck, mostly that he is not a girl, but a man disguised as a girl. She then asks him his name again, but he forgets what he had said it was before. "M -- Mary Williams", he quickly corrects himself. "Sarah Mary Williams. Sarah’s my first name. Some calls me Sarah, some calls me Mary". He mostly forgets because of his journey, what he has gone trough and he might be thinking about what will happen next, he has a lot of anxiety. The second event is after he woke up at the Grangerfords house. As a way of remembering, he tricks Buck into telling him. "Can you spell, Buck?""I bet you can't spell my name," as a response to the dare, but spells it. "You done it, but I didn't think you could. It ain't no slouch of a name to spell -- right off without studying." He then writes it down for future reference.

How long is your essay? If this is just your first paragraph, it sounds like you have nothing more to argue. You might have to change your argument for a longer paper, or at least find more than two examples. For a first paragraph, you don’t need to go into all the detail you have included here. The first paragraph should end with your thesis: Huck has a short-term memory. Then, all the examples you give would be included in subsequent paragraphs.

its very informative but it is not attention grabbing at all, it sounds like you are talking about medicine or something really boring.

Here is my revised version of your paragraph…Throughout the book, we see that Huck has a somewhat short-term memory. There are two events in which this occurs. When he and Jim decide to dress Huck up as a girl so he could go into town, he uses different names. He first introduces himself to the woman as Sarah Williams. During their conversation, the woman notices a few details about Huck, most importantly that he is not a girl, but a boy disguised as a girl. She then asks him his name again, but he forgets what he had said it was before. “M — Mary Williams”, he quickly corrects himself. “Sarah Mary Williams. Sarah’s my first name. Some calls me Sarah, some calls me Mary”. He mostly forgets because of his journey. He has gone through so much that he might be thinking about what will happen next, and he has a lot of anxiety. The second event is after he woke up at the Grangerfords house. As a way of remembering, he tricks Buck into telling him the false name that he gave. “Can you spell, Buck? I bet you can’t spell my name.” Buck does so, and Huck says, “You done it, but I didn’t think you could. It ain’t no slouch of a name to spell — right off without studying.” Huckthen writes it down for future reference. You had some run-on sentences, and sometimes it wasn’t clear who “he” was referring to. I tried to fix it. You had very good ideas, though.
